This original 16×20 abstract oil painting on canvas incorporates a multitude of lines and circles that flow freely and unscripted.

Working as a school psychologist, I don’t have many opportunities to be “loosey goosey” like many – if not all – of you! Growing up, hearing that term sounded like someone didn’t care about the quality of their work or effort. The term generally just means “relaxed,” or fun!

At the onset of this painting, I set out to do something fun – loosey-goosey.  Much of my full-time position in the schools involves doing things (i.e., testing) in a standardized manner and always conducting myself as a professional. So, this was a project of true creative expression with no rules.

This piece is a celebration of flexibility – of loosening the grip on control and letting creativity take the lead. This piece reminds me it feels good to let go once in a while. To be a little less precise when I’m not working. To make room for joy and surprise.
